  Syed Suleman was born in Hyderabad Deccan in India. His father's name was Syed Dawood. He was called as Sallu S. SulemanMian in house and by his friends. He had two elder brothers Santosh Kumar and Darpan, one younger brother Mansoor. Santosh kumar and Darpan were stars in films, while Mansoor has also worked in some films. His family was well educated.
Syed Suleman married Zarreen (former dancer actress Panna). His family is one of the top families in Pakistani films. Santosh Kumar, Sabiha Khanum, Darpan, Nayyar Sultana, Syed Suleman, Zarreen Panna and Mansoor worked in films.

Syed Suleman
 

Syed Suleman started film carrier in his childhood. He worked in Indian films before partition as a child artist. He played the childhood character of legendary Dilip Kumar in film Mela (1947). Their family migrated to Pakistan after independence and stayed in Lahore. His first released film in Pakistan was Mehbooba (1953), where Santosh Kumar and Darpna played the lead roles. Once again these 3 brothers were cast in costume film Gulfam (1961).

As a director he worked with top director Anwar Kamal Pasha as an assistant director in some films. Gulfam (1961) was his first film as director, which celebrated golden jubilee, Darpan was the hero and producer of this film. His next film Baji (1963) was a classic film but it was a flop at boxoffice. His first Punjabi film was Mehndi walay Hath (1963), which was a social Punjabi film but flopped. Zeba and Sultan played the lead roles, it remained the only Punjabi film of Zeba. His film Tamasha (1965) was the first film of lyricist Khawaja Pervez. Lori (1966) was the second golden jubilee film of Syed Suleman. He worked with Waheed Murad in only one film Be-wafa (1970), which was a flop film.

Syed Noor became the assistant director of Syed Suleman with film Mohabbat Rang Layegi (1970), after this film Syed Noor worked as assistant of Syed Suleman in his almost all films.
Ek Phool ek Pathar (1970) was his last black and white film, Ali-Zeb played the lead roles. His first color film was Teri Soorat meri Aankhen (1971) which celebrated golden jubilee, this was the first film of actor Aurangzeb and Mohammad Ali’s elder brother Irshad Ali. Mohabbat (1972) was another golden jubilee which was inspired by novel Tamanna. His first diamond jubilee was Anari (1975), which was a comedy film. Zeenat (1975), Aaj aur kall (1976), Uff yeh Bivian (1977), and Manzil (1981) were also big films to his credit.

Tere bina kya jeena (1982) was one of his carrier best film which celebrated golden jubilee. This was very affective and matchless film where Mohammad Ali and Babra gave big performances. Syed Suleman was the director, producer and writer of this film. After 5 years of gap his 2 films were released in 1987 with the names of Saat Sahelian and Love in London. Love in London was his first cinema scope and his first film shooted abroad, this was shooted in London. His last film Very Good Dunia Very Bad Log was released in 1998. This was completed in very disputed conditions and Syed Suleman give up film carrier during this film. Producer of this film Arshad Khawaja and Shaan completed rest of the film. This was also the last film of top musician Nisar Bazmi.

Now a days Syed Suleman is working for TV dramas and resides in Karachi. He has been related with showbiz since 65 years.

Syed Suleman mostly worked with Mohammad ali 19 films, Zeba 13, Shabnam 13, Nadeem 11 and Shahid 11.

As Producer
He made 4 films as producer Yaar Dost (1968), Tallaq (1976), Abhi to Main Jawan Hoon (1978) and Tere bina kya jeena (1982). Tallaq was an average film and Tere bina kya jeena was golden jubilee hit film.
