Mujeeb Alam was
a top singer and he had a very melodious male voice. His singing style was a
mixture of Mehdi
Hassan and Ahmad Rushdi's
style. He was very popular in the late 60s despite the dominance of Masood
Rana and Ahmad Rushdi.
He started his film career in an unreleased film "Nargis" in 1964 but "Jalwa" in
1966 was his debut film with a super hit song:
- Koi ja ke un se keh de,
hamen yun na azmayen,
woh Niqab-e-Rukh
ult kar,
kabhi samne to aaen..
(Film:Jalwa 1966 - music Nashad)
Some of his melodious films are mentioned in the right column and here
are some of his other all time super hit songs:
- Kisi ke bechain dil ki dharkan,
kisi ke saz-e-wafa ka naghma qabool kar lo...
(Film:Main kahan Manzil kahan 1968)
- Zara tum hi socho, bicchar ke yeh milna,
mohabbat nahin hay to phir aur kya hay..?
(Film:Dil de ke dekho 1969)
- Tum ne waada kiya tha... aane ka
apna... waada nibhane aa jao...
(Film:Maa Beta (1969)
- Yun kho geye tere pyar mein ham,
ab hosh mein aana mushkil hay...
(Film:Afsana 1970)
- Tu Chanda hay mera, main tera ujiyara...
(Film:Be-qasoor 1970 - with Runa Laila)
- Ik muddat se deevana dil,
khushiyon ka zamana bhool geya...
(Film:Karishma 1970)
- Tere pyar da main keeta iqrar te
Akhian gawah ne Ranjhna...
(Film:Rangu Jatt 1970 - with Noor Jehan)
- Khuda kabhi na kare,
gham se hamkinar tujhe...
(Film:Anjana (un-released)
- Qadmon ne ruk ke, Ankhon ne jhuk ke,
jane kya kaha hay...
(Film:Wasiyat (un-released) with Naseem Begum)
Unfortunately, he
got a short film career and was ignored by film musicians from the mid
70s. His song tally is
under hundred film songs.
Mujeeb
Alam died of heart attack on June 2nd, 2004. He was born in
