DAWOOD CHAND (Director)
Dawood Chand was a prominent film director of 1930's & 1940's of Indian cinema. He directed Veer Kaisri and Sassi Pannu (1938), Imperial mail and Joshe-e-Islam (1939), Sipahee (1941), Jangee jawan (1943), Paraey Bas main (1946), Aaarsee and Aik roze (1947).
In Paksitan he was director of first ever released Pakistan film Tairi Yad (1948). Some of his others films were Hichkoley, Mundri (1949), Sassi (1954), Bulbul (1955), Mirza Sahebaan and Hatim (1956), Muraad (1957), Aalam ara (1959), Sapairan (1961), Khaiber Pass and Ghazala (1963), Reshma (1970), and Bahadra (1973).RAZA MIR (Producer/Director)
He acted in Indian film Shaher say door (1946) but in Pakistan he choose other profession. He was first Pakistan's film Teri yaad's cinematograph and director of super hit films Lakho mai aik. He also directed some other films like Baiti (1964), Lakhon main aik (1967), Aaasra and Aneela (1969), Parai aag (1971), Naag muni, Vicharya saathi (1973), Professor and Arzoo (1975) Sohni mahiinwal (1976) and Dil keey daagh (1978). Asif Raza Mir film hero of late 1970's and early 1980's and a good TV artist is his son.
SYED SHOUKAT HUSSAIN RIZVI (Producer Director)
A very successful film director of 1940's in Indian cinema. Very successful films, Khandan (1942), Nouker (1943), Dost (1944), Zeenat (1945), Jugnu (1947) were on his credit.
He was the owner of Shahnoor studio, Lahore, married with Madam Noor Jehan and then Yasmeen. In Pakistan he produced and directed film Chan way, Jaan-e-Bhar, Aaashiq and Dulhan raani but could not be succeeded as he was in India.
S.M. YOUSUF (Director)
S.M. Yousuf was associated in indian cinema from the silent movies. He acted female roles in some films while no females were agreed to act in the films on those days.
A successful film personality of 1930's to 1950's as Producer and Director. He produced and directed Bharat ka laal (1936), Doulat (1937), Rangeela mazdoor (1938), Kahan hay manzil tairi (1939), Rangeela Noujawan (1940), Hari jeevan (1941), Raaey sahib and Sahaili (1942) Aina (1944), Pia Milan (1945) Dever, Darbaan and Naik Parveen (1946), Pati Saiva (1946) Gumashta and Gharastee etc.
In late 50's he migrated to Pakistan with his talented son Director Iqbal Yousuf. His first film Sahaili (1960) was a big hit of that time and awarded in India also. His other films were Aulad, Dulhan, Honahar, Ashyana, Eid Mubarak, Suhagan, Zindagi aik safar hay, Shareek-e-Hayat, Bahu raani, Goonj uthi shehnai, Naik perveen and Haar gaya insaan.
LUQMAN (Director)
He acted in few films and directed film Hamjoli (1947), he assisted Shoukat Hussain Rizvi in film like Zeenat (1945) and Jugnu (1947) India.
After migrating to Pakistan he directed Shahida (1949), Mehbooba (1953), Lakht-e-jigar (1956), Aadmi (1959), Ayaz (1960), and Farishta (1961) Wohti (1967) Dunya na maney (1971) and Perchaien (1974). His son Mubashir Luqman is film director now. Luqman died in 1994.
NAJAM NAQVI (Director)
Najam Naqvi was a successful film director of 1940's in Indian cinema. Some of his films were Punar Milan (1940), Raja raani (1942) Naya tarana and Tasveer (1943), Panna (1944), Parthavi raaj (1946) and Nateeja (1947).
In mid 50's migrated to Pakistan and made Kunwari Baiwa (1956) Shamim Ara's first film. He also directed some more films like Dil-e-nadaan, Naghma-e-dil, Aik manzil do rahain, Qaidi, Nateeja, Aik Taira sahara, Pael kee jhankaar etc. Najam Naqvi died in 1982.
MASOOD PERVAIZ (Actor/Director)
He acted in Indian films Ghulami (1945), Meera bai (1947) but in Pakistan he became a successful director of many hit films.
In Pakistan Masood Pervaiz directed most of classical films like Intizar (1956), Zahr-e-ishq (1958), Jhoomar (1959), Koel (1959) Sarhad (1966), Mirza jatt (1967), Heer Ranjha (1970) and Khak aur khoon (1979). His other films were Haider Ali, Naya Sooraj, Insaan, Mairan naa patey khan and Najma etc.NAZEER AJMAIRI (Director)
Nazeer Ajmairi directed Qeemat (1946) in India. After migrating to Paksitan he directed Baiqara (1950), Qismat (1956), Shohrat (1957), Izzat (1960), Paigham (1964), Dil key turkey (1965), Parda (1966), Shab bakhair (1967) etc. He died in 1970.
MUNSHI DIL (Director)
Munshee Dil directed two films in India; Do bhai and Mulaqat in 1947. In Pakistan Ishq-e-Laila (1957) was most successful film on his credit.
His other films were Shimmi (1950), Hameeda (1956), Hasrat (1958), Gul Bakaolee (1961), Azra (1962), Ishrat (1964), Shabab (1964) and Sartaj (1965).
SHAREEF NAYYAR
In 1945, Shareef Nayyar assisted Nazeer as director of his film Laila Majnoon. He also directed film Yaadgar (1947) and then moved to Pakistan.
In Pakistan most of his films were successful, he directed Bheegee palkain (1952), Mahfil (1955), Masoom (1957), Ishq par zor naheen (1963), Naela (1965), Lado (1966) Naaz (1969), Dosti (1971), Aik thee larki (1973) and Shirin Farhad (1975).
W.Z. AHMED (Producer/Director)
W.Z. Ahmed was a big name of Indian cinema in 1940's he directed many films there like Aik raat (1942), Praim ssngeet (1943), Man kee jeet (1944) and Meera bai (1947)
In Pakistan he produced and directed film Roohi (1954) and Waada (1957). His son Fareed Ahmed was also a successful director of Pakistan film industry.
NAKHSHAB CHARJAVI (Poet/Producer/Director)
“Aaahain na bhareen shikway na kiay, kuch bhi na zaban say kam lia...”, this evergreen and first ever ladies qawalli from film Zeenat (1945) was written by Nakhshab Charjavi and also he was the writer of another evergreen song from Mahal (1948), "Aaaiga aaiga aney wala..." that is favorite song of Lata Mangeshker.
He was a renowned film song writer in India and also a producer and director of some Indian films like Zindagi ya Toofan (Nouten-Pardeep Kumar), Naghma, Raftar etc. He married with Nadra (Aan fame) and separated lately.
In early 1960's migrated to Pakistan and produced and directed two films Fanoos (Komal-Salman peerzada 1963) and Maikhana (Shamim ara -Habib 1964) but these films were not very successful. Maikhana was the first Pakistani film which publicity program was telecast from Radio Cylon at that time. Nakhshab died in 1967.
M. SADIQ (Director)
A very renowned film director in Indian cinema of 1940's to 1960's. Some of his films were Namastey (1943), Bahar, Jeevan and Ratan (1944), Jagbeeti, Saathi and Sham savaira (1946), and Dak Bangla (1947) and all time hit film Choudhveen ka chand (Waheeda Rahman, Gru dutt and Rehman) was directed by him.
In early 1970's moved to Pakistan and started film Baharo Phool barsao (1972), but during making of this film he died, and Hasan Tariq completed the film later.
RAKHAN (Director)
His real name was Rafiq Ali Khan but known as Rakhan in film industry. In India he directed some films and in early 1970's migrated to Pakistan and directed Pazaib (72), Sehrey key phool and Gora Kala (73), but Rakhan could not succeeded in films and quit.
SHEVAN RIZVI (Producer/Poet)
He was also a prominent film song writer in Indian cinema. In late 1960's
migrated to Pakistan and wrote all popular songs of film Saalgirah (Shamim
ara-Waheed Murad 1969). He also directed two films Mairi zindagi
hay naghma (1972) and Baat pohnchi tairi jawani tak (1974),
he wrote these films songs also.
RAFIQ RIZVI (Director)
Rafiq Rizvi known as Bapoo, directed
some films in India like Prem Pujari (1935), Wada (1940), Awaaz (1941), Koshish (1943)
and Haqdar (1946).
In Pakistan he directed many films specially which were made in Karachi
like Baidari (1957), Wah rey zamaney (1958), Savaira and Apna
paraya (1959), Do Ustad and Neelofar (1960), Shararat (1963), Aarzoo (1965), Phir
subha hogi (1967), Samandar (1968) and Phir Chand nikley
ga (1970)
ZIA SARHADI (Actor/Director)
In India he directed many films like Postman and Madhur milan (1938),
Service limited (1939), Sapna (1942), Nadaan (1943), Yateem (1945), Hamlog,
Footpath and Boot polish.
After migrating to Pakistan in mid 60's he directed Raahguzar (1960), Insaan (1966),
and Sheher aur saaey (1974). Khayyam Sarhari,
a renowned TV artist is his son and Zaley Sarhadi, TV
artist his grand daughter.
SIBTAIN FAZLI
He was one of 1940's film's Directors in Indian cinema, directed Chowrangi (1942), Ismat (1944), Shama (1946)
and Mehndi (1947).
In Pakistan he directed evergreen film Dopatta (1952), Aankh
ka nasha (1957), and Do Tasveerein (1974)
S. T. ZAIDI
S.T. Zaidi assisted as co-director to K. Asif in
his evergreen film Mughal-e-Azam and mid 60's migrated to Pakistan.
He directed film Taaj mahal (1968), Salam-e-Mohabbat (1971), Badley
gee dunya saathi (1972), Mr. Budhu (1973) and Imandaar (1974).
WALI SAHEB
Wali Saheb directed film Lady Doctor (1944) and Dekho
jee (1947) in India. In Paksitan he was the director of Guddi
Gudda (1956), Lukkan mitti (1959) and Sohni Kumharan (1960).
He got married with Mumtaz Shantee, a big heroine of 1930's
and 1940's. Wali Saheb died in 1977.
NUSRAT MANSOORI
Nusrat Mansoor was the director of film Soorat (1946)
in India. In Pakistan he directed film Naya zamana (1958), Shahzadi (1960),
and Kooh-e-qaf (1965) and quit films.
ZAHOOR RAJA (Actor/Director)
He was a successful director and actor in Indian cinema from 1930's to
1940's and one of husband of Meena shouri. Some of his
films as actor and director were Mirza saheban (1939), Pooja (1940), Sikandar (1941), Badal and Saiva (1942), Mazaq (1943), Bhai and O
panchi (1944), Ghazal (1945), Anmol Ghadi and Dharkan (1946)
In Pakistan, he produced, directed and acted film Jehad (1950), Ghazi
Bin Abbas and Gulfarosh (1961). He also acted in some films.
MUNAWWAR H. QASIM
He directed film Laaj (1946) in India. In Pakistan he directed
film Wehshi (1956) and Aajkal (1059) and then his name
was not heard and died in 1972.
SHAIDA IMAM (Actor/Director)
Shaida Imam directed film Baghawat (1947) in
India. After migrating to Pakistan, he directed film Sitaro kee dunya (1958)
in which he was also hero with Meena Shori.
ROOP KEY SHORI
Ex-husband of Meena Shori made some films as director
in India like Nishani (1942) and Shalimar (1946).
He migrated to Pakistan and directed film Miss 56 (56) and left
for India again
BUTT KASHER
Butt Kasher was an average actor in Indian films, worked
in Googal (1946), and Mohan (1947).
After migration to Pakistan, he worked in Fankar (1956), Shikar (1956)
and Begunah (1958). He directed film Hamain bhi jeeney do (1963)
and died in 1982..
BARKAT MAHRA
He was director of Indian film Mubarak (1941), Champa (1945)
and Shher say door (1946). In Pakistan, we see only one film on
his credit Siran naal sardarian (1971).
Ashraf Khan
He was a senior film director and assisted as co-director
in pre-partition film "Gul Balouch" (First time Mohammed Rafi sang a song
for this film), then in film "Stage" and "Doctor Kortnas kee amar kahani".
He migrated to Pakistan in 60's and directed Yaseen Goreeja's film Mangti
(Bahar-Aslam Pervaiz 1960). He also directed film Choda saal (Yousuf-Sabira
sultana 68) and Pagal tey piar. Died in September 2007.
